19c 'MINE CUT' ROSARY
from the collection of Walter Daniels family

WHAT TREASURE
IS HELD BELOW THE CRUCIFIX?
+
We do not know the age of this rosary but believe it may be late 18c, early 19c.The beautiful old Garnets stand out.  They are called 'Mine Cuts' and believe they were hand cut at the mine. They appear very worn and well loved in prayer.

HISTORY REMAINS A MYSTERY?
A wonderful 7 decade rosary with a long history.  There is a small item at the bottom of this rosary that was very special to the owner.  It has a history which remains a mystery. Can you guess what it may be? (is it stone or wood?)

WALTER DANIELS COMMENTS
But the interesting part of this crucifix is the small element attached to the bottom which seems to contain a special object whose history is long forgotten.  We don't see rings at the bottom of later crucifixes so may assume this crucifix is an older piece.

7 DECADES OF
OLD 'MINECUT' GARNETS
+
NO PENDANT BEADS
We do not see many rosaries of this period with the 3 bead on the pendant above the  traditional Credo Cross and crucifix.   This rosary has 7 decades of rare 'Mine Cut' Garnets with a 'Credo-Cross' above the crucifix. No rosary center as Pater bead was traditionally used for this purpose.

RARE MINE CUTS
Tese old 'mine duts' take on a beauty of their own in their irregualr shapes and forms.  See the closeup below for a better sense of these garnet Ave beads. Also note the Pater beads of filigrees.

LIKE EARLY 'PEBBLES'
It is interesting to see how this collection of stones, although very uneven in size and shape, take on a wonderfully delightful look of the early 'pebbles' used to count prayers by the early fathers. Note Paters are filigree.

ANY THOUGHTS?
ON WHAT THIS MYSTERY
TREASURE IS?
+
+
ORIGINAL CRUCIFIX?
The crucifix may not be an original.  It may have been added or replaced at a later date as most Filigree rosaries have a reliquary filigree cross along with the filigree beads and credo cross.  Very often, the larger filigree cross is framing a porcelain crucifix image.
