Why skull beads for rosaries? A very popular custom amongst religious in the 1800s as symbolized 'life over death'. Early Jewish sages knew that the hill at Golgatha was where Adam was buried. (at least his skull was buried there) thus (Golgatha - the place of the skull) would also be the place where Jesus would be crucified according to scripture. Ancients believed that the blood of Jesus spilled down over the skull of Adam and salvation was ours. Jesus became the 'New Adam' and Mary the 'New Eve'.
