+ RDPF - PESHTIGO FIRE WITNESS (natural disaster series) + THE UNBELIEVER! This personal witness has to do with a healing. A healing of disbelief re the recent confirmation of the newly approved Apparition of Our Lady to Sister Adele in Champion WI. How the Lord worked on my very stubborn mind! RW +
A WITNESS (written on the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2011) EVENTS WERE MERGING IN MY MIND Today I went to the Parish Festival at Holy Redeemer Church in Birch Creek, (Our Pastor's other parish) a few miles from here where 20 some odd people had perished from the Peshtigo fire of 1871. From the Rosary Workshop, I drove a few miles south along the edge of and deeper into the area where the 1871 Fire penetrated the Upper Peninsula of Michigan over 140 years ago. + It was on my mind as had been reading about the Peshtigo Fire for a dedication on this website. To my right are the old railroad tracks being built at the time of the fire to haul logs and iron - still hauling logs today. I follow it every day on the way to the 'Tri-Cities" of Menominee, Marinette and Peshtigo. + MAP OF FIRE AREA
+ ROSARY WORKSHOP IN LINE OF FIRE Heading up Green Bay, note top of fire area where it says Birch Creek. Rosary Workshop is now located below the "C". We are told there are still burnt stubs in our woods next to the Workshop from the fire. This brings to us a healing peace of hope for those involved. Thanes be to God. + HAD WE LIVED DURING THIS TIME I was also thinking had we been alive in 1871, Father Pernins's parishes would have been the closest Mass to where we lived south of Stephenson. Fr Pernin, a Canadian Missionary Priest assigned to the Peshtigo area when the fire happened, also celebrated Mass twice a week at Cedar River to the East, Birch Creek to the south of us and at houses in Menominee MI. Marinette / Menekaunee and Peshtigo, across the river in WI. (no church in Stephenson until 1879) + SO MUCH TO PONDER So much to ponder. I had been watching the 9/11 events on Fox all morning while writing about the Peshtigo Fire events below. Then listening to Fox on my car radio as I drove south further into the old fire area. The two tragedies merged in my mind. In my lifetime, the reality of September 11, 2011 was VERY real as was experienced by most of us (we all have personal stories to share about 9/11) - while the terrible Peshtigo fire, the worst in the history of our nation, on October 8 1871 was old history on paper. + I had been to the Fire Museum in Peshtigo, where the old St. Mary's Catholic Church once stood, but there wasn't much to see (it was explained later that there wasn't much left after the fire.) The Peshtigo river bridge where so many men, women and children were literally incinerated to death racing for their lives or were deeply scarred for life is now US 41 taking our local traffic north / south. Don't think it really ever sunk in. + AN APPARITION DOWN THE ROAD? Then more recently I had heard about the Apparition of our Lady in Champion (Robinsonville) WI. just off of US 41, a few miles south of us. It was a bit hard to believe - so close - so had pretty much ignored it whenever it was brought up as my mind would count the many unapproved apparitions over the years. Even though it had been approved by the church as "worthy of belief" in 2010 it wasn't sinking in. I had no idea there had been a fire there. I had no idea that the Peshtigo fire was involved. + WHY? - WHAT WAS I MISSING? Last month, my daughter Mary's friend Pat and her husband drove from VA to WI to visit the shrine of the Apparition. Why? The same week, Carol asked if I had seen the article in our Diocesan paper about the pilgrimage led by our friend Father Robb (designer of the skull rosary on our site) and I had not, nor did I understand why. Then our priest Father Corey took a packed busload of pilgrims to the holy site. Why? ----- Champion is a few miles down the road from us and one usually flies to another country to do a pilgrimage to a holy site, apparition of Our Lady - like Lourdes, Fatima or Guadalupe. What was I missing? + FACTS BEGAN TO MERGE Then I learned the Apparitions of our Lady of Good Help in Champion WI happened 12 years to the day - October 8th, 9th 1859 - before the Peshtigo Fire, October 8, 1871. And yes, the fire in Champion was the same day and same time as the Peshtigo Fire! And the same day and time as the Chicago Fire. All this coming together in my mind on the 10th anniversary the firey towers fell! + BOTH HAPPENED QUICKLY My mind is thinking "Both events happened quickly (History tells us the initial Peshtigo Fire lasted a little over an hour, burning everything and any one in its way on a very dry earth). The wind and dry land extended the damage over a much larger area (see maps above and below) The loss of life in both events, the fiery twin towers and the Peshtigo fire were in the thousands. Both events came from the sky - but - (there my mind stopped - I had to wonder, could the devil control the weather?). + HER VISITS, WERE THEY A WARNING? I began to remember that in the past, Our Lady visited when she did, to warn her children to repent and to pray before a terrible event or war was about to happen History backs that fact. And that prayer and repentance were known to change the outcome. Were the heavenly words from Our Lady to Sister Adele Brise 12 years before, a warning about the fires in 1871? And are they a warning for us today to always be ready since we do not know the time or the hour? + It was the reality fact of the towers that brought the Peshtigo fire to life in my head. And it was a reality that I was trying to figure this whole thing out and get my mind around it. Below was what I had been thinking and writing that morning before I got in the car. follow the links

*DAY THE EARTH MELTED* |

A COMET or A COW? On October 8th 1871, the earth melted. The earth melted simultaneously in hundreds of fires on both sides of Lake Michigan from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Wisconsin to Chicago and east across Lower Michigan to the thumb ending on the shores of Lake Huron. + UNSEASONABLE HOT, DRY WEATHER What caused the sudden inferno in the midst of thousands of smaller fires created by the building of the railroad and loggers harvesting a virgin forest where massive white pines were 3 to 6 feet across? They were fed by unseasonable winds, high / low pressure cells merging along with an intensely dry season the year before. (Again, I had to ask if the devil could create this perfect setup - wind and dry weather - for the coming holocaust.) +
WHAT CAUSED THE FIRES? The fires of 1871, if seen by air pointed like a cone shaped arrow from West to East. No violent fires to the North, no violent fires to the South of this area, other than what the winds blew. At the tip of this arrow, a rock was found recently on the shores of Lake Huron. It was made up of 'carbonaceous chondrite'. Identified as a 26.5 kilogram meteorite. + WAS IT A COMET? Even more interesting was the theory regarding a little known comet 'Biela', whose cycle had been tracked from 1772 on, again seen in 1865 yet in 1872, the year after the fire, it was gone. Only debris could be seen in the heavens. Is it possible that this comet may collided with an asteroid belt causing frozen methane to fall on this path across WI, MI and IL? + Was this the cause of the fires of 1871 from Chicago to Peshtigo some 200 miles + north? Yet no fires in between? Fires so intense they melted marble, stone and in Chicago, hundreds of tons of pig iron melted into rivers of molten metal and now a solid mass? Vaporizing men, women, children and infants in an instant? All at the same time? It is a frightening thought that fire balls were witnessed (and recorded) by many coming out of the October sky onto the earth --- from the heavens above. + Who caused the fires? A cow? or fragments from a comet called Biela on an unseasonably dry earth in the Mid West including when high/low pressure cells met? Regardless, it makes one ponder ever so much more carefully the words given by a heavenly visitor to Sister Adele - again, was it meant for all of us today, too! APPARITION IN THE U.S (approved "worthy of belief" on Dec 8, 2010) On Saturday, October 8, 1859, Our Lady quietly appeared to a very frightened 28 year old, Sister Adele in the small town of Robinsonville, northeast of Green Bay WI. She appeared two more times on the following Sunday, October 9th. She told Sister Adele she was "Our Lady of Good Help / Queen of Heaven." Her message was clear (and speaks to us today as we do not know what the future holds): + OUR LADY'S MESSAGE TO SISTER ADELE
HER LAST WORDS TO SISTER WERE:
SISTER ADELE FOLLOWED HER ADVICE Sister Adele followed Our Lady's advice for the conversion of sinners by working in the vinyards of the Lord, encouraging everyone she met to go to confession and return to Mass. She taught children how to bless themselves and pray the rosary and taught them their catechism. She talked with parents about their faith. At this time, Wisconsin was still frontier land with few priests. + CONSECRATED TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN By 1869, there was a new boarding school, a convent and a new chapel on 5 acres of land in Robinsonville with a little white picket fence surrounding it and it was consecrated to the Blessed Virgin. |

WAS THICK EVERYWHERE On October 8th, 1871 - 12 years to the day after the first apparition of Our Lady to Sister Adele Brise, in a small boom town in the new state of Wisconsin about 62 miles west of Robinsonville, the weather was perfect for a firestorm. Hot, dry and no rain. A railroad was being built through Peshtigo to carry logs to Chicagoextending north to the Menominee iron range to transport iron south. + Much harvesting of the great forest brought itinerant lumber jacks, railroad workers along with homesteaders. Thousands of small fires had already threatened the area for weeks as branches (slash and burn) were being cleared. The smoke was thick everywhere. + SOON, THE INNOCENT WOULD SUFFER WITH THE SINNER + REVELLERS ABOUND Workers bring saloons and prostitutes to any boom town (some counts say over 60 ? each came to Peshtigo.) Father Pernin, the Catholic priest assigned to Peshtigo's St Mary's and Our Lady of Lourdes in Marinette (along with serving other communitites mentioned in the beginning), wrote about how 200 young men had arrived in town that Sunday morning to work on the railroad. How the taverns had been crowded all day 'with revellers'. + Father noted in his witness, "Perhaps they had passed the holy time of Mass, drinking and carousing there". He continued, "their intoxicated condition caused quarreling, wrestling, wild shouts and horrid blasphemies" (pg.3) Father Pernin wrote the most powerful witness of the Peshtigo fire yet and I would encourage you to read it. + MORE THAN JUST THE WIND What made me a believer was not only the comet but discovering that there was a fire in Robinsonville to the East, at the same time as the Peshtigo Fire (and Chicago fire) - and how it all tied into the Apparition of Our Lady, her warning for all of us. All on October 8 - 12 years to the day. Truly this was the hand of God. + PSALMS 102:2-4 (a charred bible)
RE READ THE WORDS ABOVE In the Peshtigo Fire Museum (WI) you will see a charred bible opened to Ps 106, 107 next to the passage above. It brings a prophetic sense to ones hearts as many men, women and children were never found as their bones were indeed incinerated into white ashes, vanishing like smoke - as in a furnace.! |

METEOR SHOWER - 2011, 2012 NASA reported the annual, early October Draconid meteor shower would be at its best this year on October 8th, 2011. This outburst happens early every October and this year suggested it a good year to watch over 600 meteors an hour. Meteor showers are named after their related constellations, in this case, Draco. On October 8, 1871, there are those in the firestorm area who witnessed and wrote about a meteor shower coming from the constellation Draco - yet there is no proof this annual meteor shower had anything to do with the 1871 events. Or is there? + ANCIENT HISTORY DRACO (Greek - Dragon) is one of three star constellations the ancients believed symbolized the Devil. The other two, HYDRA (snake / water), SERPINS (serpent / earth) and then, DRACO: (dragon / sky). These constellations still carry their ancient names in the science of astronomy and you may see their names on a sky map of the constellations to this day. + MYTHOLOGY It was pure myth but it was believed when the Angel Lucifer (Devil) and his minions fell from the sky like stars, it was from the constellation Draco. Curious! BALLONS OF FIRE 'Balloons of Fire' were reported and recorded by many on the night of October 8, 1871 over Peshtigo WI and lower Michigan. One witness tells of a family, a father, mother and 4 children trying to escape the fire ran into a large, cleared field for safety. But a great balloon of fire dropped on them and they were incinerated in an instant. Another witness told of seeing people flee into a house for safety when a fire ball hit the house and it exploded into sparks and flame, with nothing left. (see history of Peshtigo Fire) + Many spoke of the sky filled with these 'great balls of fire', traveling at immense speed, falling on the ground and bursting into a brilliant blaze of fire, consuming everything they touched. It was explained 'an electrically charged fragment of a comet nucleus undergoes explosive electrical fragmentation before reaching earths atmosphere --- the result will be a meteoric shower of granulated silicates, or sand, mixed with flammable gases and electric discharge phenomena ---" to read more see: thunderbolts |
