ORIGINAL FROM 1920
(below, original inspiration from the 1920s)
ORIGINAL LASSO ROSARY - 1920s
NOTE 'ACORN' BEADS AT EACH END
+
OPEN ENDED - WORN LIKE A NECKLACE
The old Lariat rosary below was our inspiration.  It is one full rosary and has an acorn style bead at each end.  It is 36 inches long.  This rosary was looped once to hold it on the neck.  The loop could be adjusted to be choker length or lower.  This rosary was dated by the antique dealer as 1920s, when they were very popular.  Read more below.
+
EITHER TIE OR LOOP
The Open ended Lasso or Lariat rosary comes in several designs.  They are worn in several ways, making it a very diverse design.  Either wrap it around your neck like and loop once like a choker, allowing the loose ends to hang down.  Or note the rosary with the ring above the natural pendant area.
+
OR RING AT JUNCTURE
The Lariat rosary with the ring allows the other loose end to be 'drawn' or 'threaded'  through the ring so it may hang down to the length of the other side.  The Pater bead has a tendency to catch on the ring holding it in place. This holds well and gives two nice drop down ends.
+
AWKWARD TO PRAY?
Praying an open ended rosary can be awkward but we are told it is easier to wrap one end around your hand and pray with the other.  As you pray, wrap the beads around the praying hand. Once half way through, reverse the wrapped loop and continue. We tried it and it works like a charm!

*OLD LASSO*
ABOUT OUR INSPIRATION
The Lariat rosary below is believed to be from the 1920s or before. (dated by antique dealer) - During this period, long necklaces were very popular so would make sense. Note there are 5 Pater beads but the first large bead is used as a Pater bead for the standard 3 (normally on the pendant) are prayed.

*ACORN ROSARIES*
SYMBOLISM
ACORN ROSARIES
+
AN ANCIENT TRADITION
It was an ancient belief in the British Isles that if one would carry an acorn in the pocket or wear the symbol - it would bring 'good luck' and a 'long life' along with 'immortality'. Included in this was an 'ease of pain', 'protection from storms'. Furthermore, the acorn was believed to 'protect one from getting lost' and from 'evil intent' including 'alcoholism'. It easily found its way into jewelry and rosaries.
 +
These traditions made the acorn a very very popular symbol.  We also discovered that it was traditional to paint portraits of people with rosaries made of acorns and seeds:
 +
THE PARABLE OF THE SOWER
   LUKE 8: 4-8
4  When a large crowd gathered, with people from one town after another journeying to him, he spoke in a parable.*5“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path and was trampled, and the birds of the sky ate it up.  6  Some seed fell on rocky ground, and when it grew, it withered for lack of moisture.  7  Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it.  8  And some seed fell on good soil, and when it grew, it produced fruit a hundredfold.” After saying this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.”

WE QUOTE
"In 1528, Bartholomeus Bruyn the Elder, a painter for the region of Cologne, Germany, who painted many portraits of people with rosaries, painted a portrait of Balthasar Eicheister, just betrothed (as evidenced by the holding of a carnation in his hand) and holding acorn-shaped rosary beads, since known as "Balthasar's Acorns."
+
AND
"A girdle of acorns carved in rock crystal (a symbol of purity) was found in the tomb in Lauringen, Bavaria, of the Countess Palatine Dorothea Sabina. The countess was known to be a style setter. Her Renaissance costume was completed with what is assumed to be a rosary of silver acorns."
+
UNKNOWN TRANSITION
How did the acorn symbol make the transition from the Pagan belief system to that of the Christo-European belief system? The facts don't seem to be documented; however, the symbology appears to relate to the proverb,
+
JOHN 12:24
24  Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
(A seed can only grow into a tree by first falling to the ground and dying.
