HOLY SPIRIT  PRAYERS
CHAPLET OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Chaplet of the Holy Spirit was approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1902.  It was developed in 1892 by a Franciscan Capuchin missionary of the English Province to give honor to the Holy Spirit. There are five groups of 7 beads each and each group contain a mystery which represents action of the Holy Spirit from Scripture on which one may meditate. Then one is called into a response by incorporating the action of the Spirit into ones life.

The number 5 symbolizes the 5 wounds of Christ, each of which are fountains of grace given to mankind by the Holy Spirit.

~ 1st MYSTERY ~

MEDITATION - JESUS IS CONCEIVED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT

Luke 1:35
The angel answered her: 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; hence, the holy offspring to be born will  be called Son of God...'

PRACTICE
Implore the aid of the Holy Spirit and Mary's intercession to imitate the virtues of Jesus, who is the model of all virtue, so that you may conform to his image.

~ 2nd MYSTERY ~

MEDITATION - THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD COMES ON JESUS

Matthew 3:16
After Jesus was baptized,  he came directly out of the water. Suddenly the sky opened and he saw the Spirit of God descend like a dove and hover over him.  With that, a voice from the heavens said, 'This is my beloved son.  My favor rests on him.'

PRACTICE:
Live the priceless gift of sanctifying grace infused in you on your baptism by the Holy Spirit Keep the promises of Baptism and practice Faith, Hope and Charity.  Live your life as a child of God and member of the true Church so as to obtain  your Heavenly inheritance.

~ 3rd MYSTERY ~

MEDITATION - THE SPIRIT LEADS JESUS INTO THE DESERT

Luke 4:1,2
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, then returned from the Jordan and was conducted by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, where he was tempted by the devil.  During that time he ate nothing, and at the end of it he was hungry.

PRACTICE:
Live the gifts of the Holy Spirit given you at Confirmation - for the spirit of wisdom and understanding, of counsel and fortitude, of knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord. Faithfully yield to his Divine guidance so that in all trials and temptations of life, you may act as a true Christian and valiant soldier of the Lord

~ 4th MYSTERY ~

 MEDITATION - THE HOLY SPIRIT PRESENT IN THE CHURCH

Suddenly from up in the sky there came a noise like a strong, driving wind which was heard all through the house where they were seated ... All were filled with the Holy Spirit and they began to express themselves in foreign tongues ... as the Spirit prompted them ... about the marvels that God has accomplished.

PRACTICE:
Thank the Lord for having made you a child of His church in which the Holy Spirit has been alive and active since Pentecost. Hear and obey the Holy Father who speaks for the Holy Spirit in the church. That he continue to be the pillar and ground of truth, upholding her doctrines, seeking her interests and defending her rights.
 

~ 5th MYSTERY ~

MEDITATION: THE HOLY SPIRIT PRESENT IN YOU

You must know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit that is within you.

Do not Stifle the Spirit
Ephesians 4:30
Do nothing to sadden the Holy Spirit with whom you were sealed against the day of redemption.

PRACTICE:
Be ever mindful of the Holy Spirit within you and carefully cultivate purity of soul and body.  Faithfully obey His Divine inspirations so that you may bring for the Fruits of the Spirit - Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, Obedience, Goodness, Long-suffering, Mildness, Faith, Modesty, Continency, Chastity
