This ancient basilica was dedicated to St Sebastian, a 3rd century Roman martyr. The first church was built in the 4th century over several pagan tombs which was the custom and symbolized good over evil. It was originally named 'Basilica Apostolorum', (Basilica of the Apostles.) during the time of Constantine. It was renamed in the 9th century and is the burial place of St Sebastian. + This rosary along with the Basilica series uses a beautiful pressed bead from Czechoslovakia. The surface is faceted and the ends have a 'granite' finish which gives the bead a very old look. The design of the bead is traditional and comes from an antique glass bead mold. Deep moss with granite ends give these Ave beads an heirloom look. The Pater beads are faceted, light blue fire polished bead - all beads in this rosary are from Czechoslovakia. The design of the bead comes from old bead molds used when each bead was hand pressed from hot glass in a bead mold (tongs). The crucifix is hand cast from an old Italian rosary crucifix. 52 "Thus may your eyes be open to the petition of your servant and to the petition of your people Israel. Hear them whenever they call upon you, 53 because you have set them apart among all the peoples of the earth for your inheritance, as you declared through your servant Moses when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD."
