On the feast
of the Conversion of St. Paul, 01.25.00 , John Paul II opened the holy
door of this major basilica which was in keeping with the week of prayer
for Christian Unity. An Ecumenical Celebration of Vespers was shared
instead of a Mass, with representatives from many Christian Communities
present. We have chosen amethyst to honor this basilica named after Paul
because of his zeal for the Lord, It is a royal color and the Lord
uses it lavishly throughout the Old Testament.

52 "Thus may your eyes be
open to the petition of your servant and to the petition of your people
Israel. Hear them whenever they call upon you, 53 because you have
set them apart among all the peoples of the earth for your inheritance,
as you declared through your servant Moses when you brought our fathers
out of Egypt, O Lord GOD."
