rosary workshop -  Regina Caeli - RDRC.2808
QUEEN of HEAVEN (Regina Cæli )
HONORING MARY - AN ANCIENT MARIAN ANTIPHON (998ad)

REGINA CAELI - RDRD.2808
 REGINA CAELI
One of our most beautiful rosaries yet. Antique beads in blue with white inclusions are set with Swarovski Crystal cubes. We have placed vintage metal beads that have been set with little blue faceted stones. Each stone catches the light in a rare and powerful way.  Guild member Carol L, our Choir Director at The Church of the Precious Blood, felt very strongly that we needed to make a rosary dedicated to Regina Caeli, Queen of Heaven. She pulled these antique, hand made beads from our private collection and we worked them in the design below.

SUNG BY THE ANGELS  (998ad)
The origin, author unknown, of Regina Cæli is believed to date back to the time of St Gregory the Great.  The legend says he heard the first three lines ('Regina cæli lætare, Alleluia: Quia quem meruisti portare, Alleluia: Resurrexit sicut dixit, Allelluia') being sung by angels while walking barefoot behind the icon of the Virgin, believed painted by the Evangelist Luke one Easter morning in Rome,  He was inspired to add the fourth line. ('Ora pro nobis Deum, Alleluia').

QUEEN OF HEAVEN - ANTIPHON
Regina Caeli or Regina Coeli ("Queen of Heaven") is an ancient latin Marian Hymn of the Christian Church. It  is one of the four seasonal Marian antiphons of the Blessed Virgin Mary, prescribed to be sung or recited in the Liturgy of the Hours at the conclusion of the last of the hours to be prayed in common that day, typically night prayer (Compline or Vespers). The Regina Caeli is sung or recited in place of the angelus during the Easter season, from Holy Saturday through Pentecost Sunday. The Latin word coelum, meaning "heaven" (whence the English word celestial) appears to be a misspelling of caelum: only the form with ae is recognised in the Oxford Latin Dictionary. see the Catholic Encyclopedia.
