The Latin American
center is an image of the two sacrifical doves from the time of the Old
Testament. Mary and Joseph left two doves at the temple as an offering
according to this tradition. The powerful crucifix is set in a circle
- a strong symbol of God never ending surrounding his son during the crucifixion.
Ethiopian in origin, it is similar to the early Celtic crosses
and may have been influenced by the Irish who traveled in this area doing
early missionary work.
