These stones are some of the most beautiful we have ever seen. Almost every one has a fossil embedded in its surface. This, along with the colors that play across the surface of these rare beads makes it a remarkable stone to use in a rosary. The flat surface of these beads gives a better view of the critters that once lived in that area of the world. + ... PETOSKI STONE ... Sometimes this stone is referred to as Petoski Stone found in the area around Emmet County, Michigan (It is also the state stone of MI) but Petoski is greener and has a denser pattern than the fossilized coral shown below which is probably from the Pacific Rim. + ... FOSSILIFEROUS ROCK ... Is a term applied to any fossil bearing rock. It is found in corals, limestones shales, sandstones and some marbles to name a few. It is generally found in sedimentary rocks of marine origin. As sediments form or move, animals and plants are trapped in it and die without oxygen. As animals and plants are trapped, a chemical reaction replaces the biological nature of the forms preserving them. Shell and skeletal forms are the best of the life forms that are preserved. + ... OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS ... We know the earth is completely covered by massive layers of sedimentary rock, deposited under flood conditions, the result of a single major catastrophe.
