'SPANISH GRIPPE'
When she was 4, an (measles / smallpox) epidemic struck her, killing her family. She was left weakened, scarred and with poor eyesight for the rest of her short life.  She died when she was 24.  Several witnesses including two Jesuit priests saw the scars leave her face shortly after her death.  Many suffered from these outbreaks believed brought by the white man from Spain and France who passed it to the vulnerable indians who in turn infected groups of white men in other areas.

BLOOD OF THE MARTYRS
Kateri Tekakwetha followed the generation of saints John de Brebeuf, Isaac Jogues and Companions from the North American Martyrs confirming the ancient belief that “the blood of martyrs is the seed of the church (Tertullian (c. 160 – c. 220 AD)

‘The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.’
Variant translation: As often as we are mown down by you, the more we grow in numbers; the blood of the Christians is the seed.
note that the North American Martyrs (1646 - 1649)
are followed by Kateri Tekakwiths (1656 - 1680).
+
ALSO NOTE
Pete Paul Vachon, (Beauport, Quebec) born the same year as Kateri (Auriesville NY) Both born near where the North Americans / Canadian Martyrs died. Since 1885 Auriesville (Fultonville, NY) is the home of the National Shrine honoring the North American Martyrs (Our Lady of the Martyrs).

HEBREWS 19: 19-20
"Thus not even the
first covenant was inaugurated without blood ...
... 19 When every commandment had been proclaimed by Moses to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves [and goats], together with water and crimson wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,  20 saying, “This is ‘the blood of the covenant which God has enjoined upon you.’”
HEBREWS 19: 21-23
21 In the same way, he sprinkled also the tabernacle and all the vessels of worship with blood.  22  According to the law almost everything is purified by blood,  and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.  23 Therefore, it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified by these rites, but the heavenly things themselves by better sacrifices than these.
