FATHER PATRICK PEYTON
  (January 9, 1909 – June 3, 1992)
+
HIS EARLY LIFE
Patrick Joseph Peyton   (January 9, 1909 – June 3, 1992), was born in Ireland to John Peyton of Carracastle and to the former Mary Gillard of Rathreedane, in Townland of Bonniconlon, County Mayo. Sixth in a family of four girls and five boys. The family lived in a stone cottage near the Ox Mountains. A deeply religious Irish Catholic family.
+
Early on he was known to be rebellious child which caused him to drop out of school, but by the time he was a teen he began to think about becoming a priest. But set it aside to help around the farm. Their sisters who were now in America encouraged Patrick and  older brother Timothy to sail and join their family members. He was deeply impressed with the life of the Irish in this new country and through a series of events ended up serving as a sexton at St. Stanislaus Cathedral in June of 1928.
  +
This new job brought him back to the desire for the priesthood. Monsignor Kelly encouraged him to finish high school before becoming a novitiate. Eventually he and his brother Timothy entered the seminary of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1932.
 +
Patrick was admitted to the Moreau Seminary within the University of Notre Dame in 1932 and pursued a degree in Bachelor of Arts, and also excelled in Philosophy. He was drawn to the Holy Cross Father for the order's focus towards the Holy Family, obedience, conscience, and the family-like atmosphere within the Congregation.

PROMOTER OF THE ROSARY
His famous motto — “The family that prays together stays together” — became a motto and rallying call for innumerable families. Today, it remains recognizable to millions around the globe. Also popular was his second motto — “A world at prayer is a world at peace.”
 +
THE ROSARY PRIEST
Peyton became the founder of the post-World War II prayer movement called, "Family Rosary Crusade". This campaign was harnessed by the CIA between 1958 and 1965 and was funded in order to combat leftist influence in Latin America, during the Cold War.
+
"Father Peyton staged massive Rosary rallies in key cities of the world and extensively utilized mass communication, helped by world-recognized celebrities of Hollywood at that time, promoting his ministry of binding families through prayer under the Family Rosary. Peyton was a popular and charismatic figure in Latin America and the Philippines, where he promoted the Rosary and was known for his strong Irish accent."

Father Peyton was one of the first to to evangelize using mass media through radio, films, outdoor advertizings and te.
+
INTERCESSORY PRAYER
We encourage you to remember him in prayer, especially for his Sainthood.  Please ask Father Peyton to intercede for the needs of your loved ones and friends, especially in matters of faith, evangelization and praying the rosary.

Peyton once said that "The family that prays together stays together" and "A world at prayer is a world at peace".
