rosary workshop - Soft Flex Wire
CRIMPING INSTRUCTIONS
HOW TO USE AND CRIMP BEADS
Crimping beads
are used to secure Softflex jewelry wire. We use and sell 3 colors, silver,
bronze and black. The black we use on black beads, the metal colors pick
up the color of the metals we use when making jewelry and rosaries. We
use two crimps at each juncture or end to secure the wire. You might check
our images under the links above - ROSARIES or CHAPLETS to
see how we do this.
We match the
color of our .019 Soft Flex wire with 2 mm crimps (black oxide, silver
and gold plate) in our rosaries and have found it to be the best quality
for our use. It is the strongest and the most pliable.
Good side cutters and pliers are necessary tools for this technique. See
instructions below using the two notched crimping pliers. (The only difference
between the instructions below and the way we do it is that we use a bead
last, not a crimp.)

To Secure Soft Flex wire use crimping beads: + 1. Finish work by threading crimping bead onto wire. 2. Loop wire through end ring - then back through crimping bead. 3. Carefully/slowly pull wire into place - then release tension a bit for some play. 4. Secure wire into place by crimping bead with crimping pliers (see below). |
|
To form a tight, clean and well shaped crimped bead you will need crimping pliers. Please note shape of two areas for crimping. (For proper crimping - make sure you hold the pliers so curve points towards you and not away) + 1. Inside 'crimper' - folds bead into a 'c' shape as it tightens and secures wire. 2. Outside 'folder' - flattens and folds bead back onto itself. 3. To round bead off, turn bead 1/4 turn, crimp again. (Instructions on package) |
