NOVENA  of  SAINT  JOSEPH
FEAST DAY MARCH 19 - ST JOSEPH THE WORKER - MAY 1
In second century Galilee, a Christian apologist by the name of Justin Martyr spoke of the work of the son of Joseph the carpenter.  He said it was still common to see farmers using plows made by the carpenter Jesus of Nazareth. Joseph was not only visited by angels but entrusted to be the foster father of Jesus.  He taught his son many things including a trade in his woodshop.

St Joseph still interceeds for us today in the deepest of care and detail - as patron of the family, and is a model for men to follow as fathers.  He is also the patron of cabinetmakers and craftspeople, a happy and holy death, the home - selling and buying - expectant mothers and immigrants.

~ NOVENA PRAYERS ~

The chaplet of St Joseph is traditionally divided into 15 groups of 3 purple beads and separated by  one white bead. The purple symbolizes his piety. The color purple is very close to heaven in the spectrum.  White symbolizes the purity of Joseph. The 15 sets represent the 15 mysteries of the rosary.

On the purple beads - meditate on each mystery and say:
'Praised and blessed be Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

V. Pray for us, O holy St Joseph
R. Theat we may be worthy of the promises of Christ!

O, God, who has predestined St Joseph of all eternity for the service of thine eternal Son and his blessed Mother and made him worthy to be the spouseof the Blessed Virgin and the foster father of your Son, we beseech Thee through all the services he has rendered to jesus and mary on hearth, that you would make us worthy of his intercession and grant us to enjoy the happines of his company in heaven, through Christ our Lord, amen

O God, You were pleased to choose Saint Joseph as the husband of Mary and the guardian of your Son. Grant that, as we venerate him as our protector on earth, we may deserve to have him as our intercessor in heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
