DO PROTESTANTS PRAY THE ROSARY?
We receive many emails that start off ' I would love to make rosaries but I am a Protestant - is it ok? Some ask, 'I want to pray the rosary but do not know if I should,' is it just a 'Catholic thing'. What a treasure! How beautiful it is that people are discovering the rosary regardless of their faith.  Even had one lady ask if praying the rosary would make her 'Catholic'. No, praying the rosary will not make one become a Catholic, and Yes, it is ok to pray or make a the rosary regardless of ones faith. The rosary is simply made up of scriptural passages that tell the life of Jesus. A powerful way to count prayers and meditate on Him. It makes one realize that to fully know and understand who Jesus is, you must know scripture - both Old and New Testaments.

HOW DOES MARY FIT IN?
I was raised a Protestant and could not quite figure out how Mary fit into all of this - other than the fact that she takes our hand and tells us the story of her son like any proud mom would do. I heard a man say once about Mary, 'if she was good enough for Jesus, she is good enough for me.' That really stuck in my heart and made me realize that if Jesus is my brother, then Mary is my mother. I have noticed that more and more Protestants are understanding this mystery of Mary and are embracing her roll without feeling it is a 'Catholic thing'or that they are putting Mary before Jesus when actually one of her most famous quotes in scripture (Cana, sign of the first miracle) is 'do as He tells you'.

WE ARE ALL THE FAMILY OF GOD
This is great news as we are all the family of God, the body of Christ, regardless of our church preferences. The Ave (Hail Mary) and the Pater (Our Father) beads simply keep track of these passages so we can meditate on this, the greatest of all stories.

... a quieting of the spirit ...
'In saying the rosary, truth sinks into the subconscious like a slow and heavy downpour.  The hammered sentences of the Gospel receive and indelible validity for precisely the little ones, the least, to who belongs the Kingdom of Heaven ... the Rosary is a long and persevering gaze, a meditation , a quieting of the spirit in praise of God, the value of which we Protestants are learning more and more.'  Richard Baumann (German Lutheran Minister)

... a former Southern Baptist ...
Last fall I started thinking about starting a Rosary making group at our local parish but kept putting it off .  Since I'm housebound with bad lungs I thought I'd  invite people to my home and form a group!  When I finally put my plans into action about 6 weeks ago, our parish priest put a notice in the church bulletin every week for several weeks, asking people to call me.  WELL!!!!!!!!!  I now have an afternoon group and an evening group!  We have a list of 14 places where we want to send finished rosaries and a Sister at our parish school wants to learn so she can teach her students. The CCD director also wants the CCD children to make them  for a service project.  Next fall Father wants each of the school children to make a rosary they can keep at school and USE at least once a month if not once a week.

I've made each Group member a rosary bracelet and because several women have chosen to wear them to work, new groups are forming at 2 other parishes!!!  Conversations were started over the bracelets and the plans began because someone was wearing a sacramental for the world to see!

Isn't all this wonderful?  Especially when you consider that my husband and I are not cradle Catholics!  We joined the Church on Nov. 24 of 1994.  A former Southern Baptist is now making rosaries in her living room!

... rolling thunder - 2002 ...
A little over two years ago several men from my home parish would meet a say a Rosary every Friday at 6:00 am.  We have been as few as two and sometimes up to a dozen.  In April of this year one of our parish priests, Fr. Bill challenged us to bring 200 men together to say the rosary on Fridays during May.  While we were not completely successful in meeting the 200 voices ... we were able to bring between 120 and 150 men's voices together on those Fridays.  To hear the church filed with those voices was  extraordinary.  Fr. Bill called it "rolling thunder."  It was a true blessing to be present.  Again, thank you for your work.  I look forward to receiving my rosary. Kelly G (IA)

... using the scriptural method ...
I wish to give you my heart-felt thanks for your beautiful gift you've given me and I want you to know I'm praying my rosary using the scriptural method.  Some days I go through the 15 mysteries and other days I use the one for specific days of the week. I really enjoyed reading the history of the rosary, I never knew all that.  Claudia Valencia (USA)

... The rosary is not a road - but a place ...
…  speaks of the rosary's contemplative and liturgical nature as "a sojourn" which offers a "quiet, holy world that envelops the person who is praying . . . The rosary is not a road - but a place - it has no goal but a depth.  To linger in it has great compensations." Romano Guardini

... bind me forever ...

... shining beads of prayer ...
'I wish that my friendship's fingers, might take the dark beads of care,
and leave on the rosary of your life, the shining beads of prayer.' Old Victorian Postcard

I pray the Rosary all the time with my brother and my grandma.
