(from a private collection - not for sale) WHEN FILIGREE WAS DISCOVERED
... Some have wood set in the cross (sometimes mother of pearl was inserted into the wood.) Some were medallions instead of crosses and it was not unusual for these fat, lacy frames to carry metal 'coin like' images of Popes, kings and popular saints. Filigree rosaries in silver and gold with coral beads and other precious stones quickly became very popular in Europe and were coveted, especially by royalty and the wealthy. Filigree work is over 5000 years old and holds a beautiful history. to learn more about filigree work follow links above. CORAL

~ NEW CORAL FILIGREE ~ Our new coral filigree is inspired by the antique filigree above. Here we have used 8mm Ave Coral beads and mixed them with these handmade silver filgrees which have not changed in design for centuries as old books confirm. Coral was considered to have healing properties so was very popular. |

12 At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known. 13 So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love NAB (1Corinthians 12:12-13) |

~ CREDO KREUZ ~ |
|
A CREDO (Creed) KREUZ (cross) is the little cross that sits above the large pendant cross or medallion on rosaries of the period. Once the Creed was repeated, a traditional prayer was said on this cross. The prayer asked for an 'increase of faith hope and love or charity.' (Early rosaries of this period did not carry the 3 Ave beads in the pendant but were added later.) Today, the Creed is said on the large crucifix at the bottom of the pendant and in our area, the prayer for an 'increase of faith, hope and love' still follows the Creed. (You may order the filigree with or without this cross, in sterling or bronze. We prefer the all silver without the credo but that is a matter of choice. Note that the filigree is much shorter than most rosaries.) |

~ EXOTIC WOOD ~ We see wood used in the filigree rosary from the 100s on. Probably more popular with men as not quite so ornate. The shorter length allows these rosaries a special place for many (cherrywood). |

~ MOTHER of PEARL ~ Inspired by the faux pearls and pearl filigrees, this mother of Pearl reminds us that Mary is the Mother of the Pearl of Great Price, Jesus. Shown here with a bronze cross but not as powerful as the silver. Faceted beads are a mix of opaque / translucent and subtle colors! |

The filigrees are still being made but very hard to find. Prefer an old one? Antique Filigrees are still available and come up now and then on Ebay. Just make sure the seller is able to date correctly as it is very hard to tell the old from the new from age to age through an image. NEW ONES IN AUGSBURG & OBERAMMERGAU
A recent email from Robert Vester-Bendtsen (DK) requesting more information, gave us the thought of just ordering them from this company instead of making a similar one here. I gave him the small amount of info I had re the shop and he was able to find it through the chamber of commerce. We emailed, and Irmgard Mailer, told us that the filigree supplies were no longer available so were unable to make them any more. (Devot. A. Anzmann, GmbH Maximlianstr. 50, 86150 Augsburg (DE). A few years later
we saw new ones (from the Bavarian Forest) in Oberammergau (2007)
at GG. LANG SEL. ERBEN (Tel 008 22/1081, Fax 008 22 / 1060) but knew, they
were rare and not sure if they are still available but the addresses above
may give you a lead if needed.
