BUILT UPON
EARTH FROM CALVARY
The Holy Cross at Jerusalem was built around the year 326 to house the relics of the passion which were brought back from Jerusalem by Emperor Constantine's mother, (Empress) Saint Helen.  She also brought back earth from Calvary, the place of the crucifixion of Jesus in Jerusalem.  It was spread on the grounds of her palace in Rome and the basilica was built on top of this earth which gave it its name.

Hebrews 9:11-12
11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be,  passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is not belonging to this creation, 12 he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, this obtaining eternal redemption.
(rosary was scripture inspired)

HOW DID THEY KNOW
IT WAS THE TRUE CROSS?
The area where the relics were buried became a holy place of pilgrimage for the new Christians in Jerusalem.  To discourage them, a temple was built over it to a pagan god which ended up as simply marking the holy spot.  The Jews (New Christians) kept this information to themselves, passing it from generation to generation verbatim.  When the spot was pointed out to Helen in the 4th Century, the temple was torn down. They dug into the gravel and rocky soil, finding the remains of all three crosses.  The instruments of death were discarded all together according to the traditions of the day.

FACETED RUBY RED WITH GRANITE ENDS

AE BEADS:  PATER BEADS:  We used the same bead for the Ave (8mm) and  Pater (10mm) only in different sizes. Deep ruby red faceted bead with granite ends work well to give an older look to he rosary. . And work well with the old Italian rosary crucifix chosen here.  Amethyst spacers bring home the sense of the emotion felt in the basilica that houses relics of the Passion of Christ.
