LAPIZ
THE ANCIENT STONE OF HEAVEN
Lapis (Lazuli) has been mined for over 6000 years and is known as the 'Stone of Heaven'. Early Egyptians believed it symbolized the 'all embracing night sky. Its deep blue (from sulfur) is familiar to us with its veins of pyrite and calcite. But these beads are almost pure blue rarely seen. We are having problems purchasing Lapis as the main source is Afghanistan but found our friend across the bay from us at the Gem and Mineral show in Tucson who carried them.
+
' We are using Lapis that is remarkably clear and free of impediments. This is considered a wonderful and highly prized Lapis stone.

GENESIS 2:10-12
A river rises in Eden to water the garden; beyond there it divides and becomes four branches. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it is the one that winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 The gold of that land is excellent; bdellium and lapis lazuli are also there.

ISAIAH 12:2-3,5
2  God indeed is my savior; I am confident and unafraid. My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior. 3  With joy you will draw water at the fountain of salvation,  4  and say on that day: ....
+
... 5  Sing praise to the LORD for his glorious achievement; let this be known throughout all the earth. 6  Shout with exultation, O city of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel!

CAPTURED THE EYE SINCE ANCIENT TIMES
During the middle ages, a pinch of ground Lapis was given as a medicinal cure for some ailments and diseases. The ancients called it a name that meant 'delight'.  And it was considered to ward off evil while others wore it to enhance wisdom and stimulate inner vision.

LAPIS USED FOR PIGMENT
Lapis has been used in some very interesting ways. It was crushed and used as pigment in the Medieval painting of the Wilton Diptych  This painting pictures Mary with the Child, Jesus surrounded by angels, all of whom are dressed in blue with Mary in a deeper ultramarine. (only a part of the diptych is show)

 not what we say but
what God says to us and through us
"We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature-- trees, flowers, grass--grow in silence; see the stars, the moon and sun, how they move in silence. Is not our mission to give God to the poor in the slums?  Not a dead God, but a living Loving God. The more we receive in silent prayer, the more we can give in our active life. We need silence to be able to touch souls. The essential thing is not what we say, but what God says to us and through us.  All of our words will be useless unless they come from within--words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness."  from 'Something Beautiful For God'  Mother Teresa

a lifetime treasure
The Lapiz Rosary arrived yesterday. For once in my life I am at a loss for words. I never DREAMED a rosary so beautiful exsisted in this world. It is simple gorgeous to look at, and also has the most extraordinary tactile quality...it is so solid. It is surely a life time treasure and an heirloom to someone when I leave this life. I am amazed just holding it and imagining that I can actually keep it!! Thank you so very much.  Jeanne J. (PA)
