LAPIS LAZULI ROSARY - 'STONE of
HEAVEN' - AFGHANISTAN
![]() |

Lapis (Lazuli) has been mined for over 6000 years and is known as the 'Stone of Heaven'. Its deep blue (from sulfur) is familiar to us with its veins of pyrite and calcite. But these beads are almost pure blue rarely seen. We are having problems purchasing Lapis as the main source is Afghanistan. + DEEP SHADES OF LAPIS BLUE - BEADS ARE ALMOST PURE IN COLOR. USED WITH FACETED SILVER FILIGREE BEADS AND BRONZE CAPS 8mm (shown here lighter to highlight beads) + WILTON DIPTYCH
National Gallery - London + LAPIS - MEDICINAL & FOR PIGMENT Lapis has been used in some very interesting ways. It was crushed and used as pigment in the Medieval painting of the Wilton Diptych (original may be seen at the National Gallery in London). This painting pictures Mary with the Child, Jesus surrounded by angels, all of whom are dressed in blue with Mary in a deeper ultramarine. (only a part of the diptych is show) + During the middle ages, a pinch of ground Lapis was given as a medicinal cure for some diseases. The ancients called it a name that meant 'delight'. And it was considered to ward off evil. Lapis was known by the ancients as the 'Stone of Heaven" and the early Egyptians believed it symbolized the 'all embracing night sky.' We are using Lapis that is remarkably clear and free of impediments. This is considered a wonderful and highly prized Lapis stone. ROSARY

A river rises in Eden to water the garden; beyond there it divides and becomes four branches. 11 The name of the first is the Pishon; it is the one that winds through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 The gold of that land is excellent; bdellium and lapis lazuli are also there. |

1 On that day, you will say: I give you thanks, O LORD; though you have been angry with me, your anger has abated, and you have consoled me. 2 God indeed is my savior; I am confident and unafraid. My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior. 3 With joy you will draw water at the fountain of salvation, 4 and say on that day: .... |

"We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature-- trees, flowers, grass--grow in silence; see the stars, the moon and sun, how they move in silence. Is not our mission to give God to the poor in the slums? Not a dead God, but a living Loving God. The more we receive in silent prayer, the more we can give in our active life. We need silence to be able to touch souls. The essential thing is not what we say, but what God says to us and through us. All of our words will be useless unless they come from within--words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness." from 'Something Beautiful For God' Mother Teresa
