AND LIFE EVERMORE
A gradual canticle of David.  PSALM 132:1. Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity:  132:2. Like the precious ointment on the head, that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron, Which ran down to the skirt of his garment:  132:3. As the dew of Hermon, which descendeth upon mount Sion. For there the Lord hath commanded blessing, and life for evermore.' Here we pray for the peace of brotherly love in a world that  seems to have forgotten how.

 PSALM 133:2-3
Like precious ointment on the head, running down upon the beard, Upon the beard of Aaron, upon the collar of his robe. 3 Like dew of Hermon coming down upon the mountains of Zion.  There the LORD has lavished blessings, life forever more!
 (rosary inspired by scripture)

"Consider now why this is done, for "the eyes of a wise man are in his head;" therefore the ointment flows down to the beard, that is to say, to the beauty of youth; and therefore, Aaron's beard, that we, too, may become a chosen race, priestly and precious, for we are all anointed with spiritual grace for a share in the kingdom of God and in the priesthood"
(St Ambrose - Bishop of Milan, d 374)

~ ABOUT AMBER ~
WHAT IS AMBER?
AMBROSIA? ELECTRUM?
Amber (from the Greek Ambrosia) is a fossilized resin or sap that comes from trees dating back 50 million years.  Also called 'electrum' as Amber produces a static electricity when rubbed. The softness of this organic gem allows it to be re-formed into various shapes for bead making. Like time capsules, bugs, organic matter and tiny animals are often frozen inside.

AMBER FAVORED - BURNT BY MOSES
Rosaries and prayer beads made of amber have been favored for centuries.  They have been used by people of all religions throughout the world as prayer counters.  Amber was a treasure carried along the trade routes and highly prized for having healing powers.  It was ground and put into an oil which was consumed for various ailments. In scripture we read that Moses burned amber during the ritual of the Tabernacle for the purpose of purifying the sacred ground.

NUMBERS 17:16

... THE LORD NOW SAID TO MOSES ...
17 "Speak to the Israelites and get one staff from them for each ancestral house, twelve staffs in all, one from each of their tribal princes. Mark each man's name on his staff;  18  and mark Aaron's name on Levi's staff, for the head of Levi's ancestral house shall also have a staff.  19  Then lay them down in the meeting tent, in front of the commandments, where I meet you.  20  There the staff of the man of my choice shall sprout. Thus will I suppress from my presence the Israelites' grumbling against you." ...
 +
... 21  So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their princes gave him staffs, twelve in all, one from each tribal prince; and Aaron's staff was with them.  22  Then Moses laid the staffs down before the LORD in the tent of the commandments.
 +
23  The next day, when Moses entered the tent, Aaron's staff, representing the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth not only shoots, but blossoms as well, and even bore ripe almonds!  24  Moses thereupon brought out all the staffs from the LORD'S presence to the Israelites. After each prince identified his own staff and took it, ...
 +
... 25  the LORD said to Moses, "Put back Aaron's staff in front of the commandments, to be kept there as a warning to the rebellious, so that their grumbling may cease before me; if it does not, they will die."  26 And Moses did as the LORD had commanded him.

... noticed gems floating in the surf ...
In the year 1204, the fourth crusade ended and the armed knights returned to Europe.  Among these were the Teutonic Knights who upon their return, were requested to patrol the Gulf of Dazig in the Baltic Sea from marauding Raiders.  (In 1206, Tradition shares that Our Lady Appeared to St Dominic, presenting him with a rosary.  He was instructed to spread its devotion through its use.) While on patrol at the Gulf, the Knights noticed gems floating in the surf.  It was amber.  Operating from Marbrow Castle, the Knights claimed all the amber for rosaries which were sold throughout Europe for over 200 years. ... my wife was pleased ...
Dear Guild,  My wife was pleased with the Amber Rosary which I presented on our 50th Anniversary along with the message of events (above) that lead up to the first amber rosary.  Thought you might be interested.

... praying the rosary always calms ...
I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed the amber rosary.  Yesterday was a cold, cloudy Pennsylvania winter day.  The rosary seemed to be a breath of spring!  It is so light, bright and cheery.  Ideas of daffodils and sunshine filled my head.  My daily prayer with the rosary is similar to a slice of spring and joy.

Praying the rosary always calms and helps me to see situations in their proper perspective.  I don't know when our career problems will be resolved.  It may take two weeks to five months  [but] I will find the patience to wait.  Thank you and all the ladies of the Guild for your kind prayers.  They are much appreciated.
     God's blessings,   Mary Schilhavy (HI)
