Rosary Workshop - Wonderful trips
TUCSON GEM and
MINERAL SHOW
|
INTERNATIONAL GEM AND MINERAL SHOW During the last week in January and the first week of February, Tucson Arizona submits to sellers and buyers from all over the world. Why? Because it is the largest gem and mineral show of its kind anywhere. This convergence of treasures and people is enough to baffle the mind and the eye. It is as if you walked into an international market somewhere other than the US. May be even the storehouse of the Smithsonian. + For beaders, it is a treasure trove of overwhelming proportions and unexpected delights. Ancient beads from before Christ (BCE) to new beads fresh from the hands of expert and innovative lampworkers and wire benders are there. + Huge tents that normally house seasonal sports events now spill into more tents - all full of beads and findings. Motel rooms become open shops, one after another. Tables filled with beads outside each door lure one inside for more. 40 + sites around the city and we only were able to visit 4. It is a feast no one can endure for long, thus in the evening it is time for great Latin American cuisine and the search for the best Margarita in Tucson! Then there is tomorrow. ... If ... only the body ... can take one more day! + But on Sunday - there is the Mission church, San Xavier del Bac, also known as the Dove of the Desert just south of the city. There we will recapture our thoughts and redirect our motives as rosarymakers - andy maybe catch a whiff of fry bread if the market is open in front! |

AND TREASURES FROM FAR AWAY LANDS ... There is no time to rest comfortably in this sunny January place. This feast for the eyes, such treasures below - sold by venders - who - many - wear their native garments from the Middle East, Africa, the Orient and India. (Even though they may be from Chicago!) |

SPILL INTO RIVERS OF MORE OF THE SAME, .... and it is hard to believe these endless piles of beads will be hardly there by the end of the week. Eager hands will grab them for their own. We are not allowed to photograph any more so glad these pictures were taken to remind us of all we look forward to in January of each year. Faceted Pearls? How do they do that? But the venders just smile .... |
