rosary workshop - Museum -  19c
19c CARVED WOODEN ROSARY
DEEPLY WORN CARVED WOODEN BEADS

IF IT COULD ONLY TALK!
This rosary shows remarkable wear over years of use.  Just holding this rosary in your hands gives one a powerful sense of compassion and love.  If it could only talk of its owner's life and prayer time. We have set a newer bead next to it that is similar but not as old to give you an idea of how worn these beads are having traveled through the fingers of their counter over time.
+
The chain and crucifix along with the fact that it has no center medal suggests it is probably from the early part of the 19c.

CONFIGURATION    -  BEADS   -   CRRUCIFIX

~ CONFIGURATION ~

5 decades using a Pater bead as a juncture, possibly, typical of rosary used by a religious or confraternity. Many rosaries during this period did not use a center. Around 1880 we begin to see little hearts used as centers - 22.5 in

~ BEADS ~

A PATHWAY OF PRAYER
Traditional chained technique used to space Paters and Ave beads found during the 19c  Heavily worn, carved wooden beads show a lifetime of prayers. Note definition of newer ones, unworn sample.   (similar to but not same design)

~ PENDANT CRUCIFIX ~

HANDMADE CRUCIFIX
Wood inlayed brass cross with crucifix attached shows heavy wear from use. Note file marks on metal giving way to crucifix being hand made. Small at 2 in - may not be original crucifix.
