rosary workshop - Museum - 19c filigree
1820 FAUX PEARL ROSARY
MADE IN SWABISH GMUND GERMANY
Purchased in 2003 in Southern Bavaria near the
site of the Passion Play, this antique filigree rosary or 'Rosenkranz'
is not all that far from it origin. A wonderful example of glass
pearls from Europe. Schwabish Gmund was known for its jewelers. It
is near Stuttgart Germany.
CONFIGURATION - FILIGREE CROSS - BEADS
This was the same shop in Bavaria where we have found so many of our filigrees over the years. We are grateful he has kept us in mind. Dealer dated this rosary as 1820.

~ CONFIGURATION ~
When praying the rosary, one begins by kissing the cross, then moving onto the small cross above it, called the 'Credo' Cross. During this period, the Creed was recited on this cross followed by a plea for an 'increase of faith, hope and charity'. The Pater is prayed, then 3 Aves followed by the Pater. Once the circle is entered, the Aves are prayed on the smaller beads, Paters on the filigrees.
