HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN CRUCIFORM
Purchased in 2003 in Southern Bavaria near the site of the Passion Play, this antique filigree rosary or 'Rosenkranz' is not all that far from it origin.  A wonderful example of glass 'pearls' from Europe. Schwäbisch Gmünd - was known for its jewelers and remains a world class center for learning with its many art schools. Antique Dealer dated this rosary as 1820.

~ CONFIGURATION ~

5  decades of 9mm  Faux Pearls are used for Aves with traditional silver filigree Paters on this strung rosary.  17 in.

When praying the rosary, one begins by kissing the cross, then moving onto the small cross above it, called the 'Credo' Cross. During this period, the Creed was recited on this cross followed by a plea for an 'increase of faith, hope and charity'. The Pater is prayed, then 3 Aves followed by the Pater. Once the circle or the rose garden is entered, the Aves are prayed on the smaller beads, Paters on the filigrees.



~ CRUCIFIX ~

Beautiful hand painted images on a porcelain cross is set in a silver  filigreed cruciform frame  . - 3in From top to bottom. (Few have survived without cracks or missing parts)




~ BEADS ~

Small variegations in these 9 mm pearlized glass beads creates a wonderful overall visual texture to this rosary. Filigree Paters. Note metal spacers.
