Its history is scriptural. The first
novena was prayed by the 120 disciples including Mary after the Ascension
of Jesus which is celebrated on Holy Thursday. 9 days of intense
prayer after the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven until the Day of Pentecost
is recorded in Acts. The heavenly response to this first novena was the
Holy Spirit who came on each one present as tongues of fire. All
were given the gifts of the Spirit.

in us the fire of Your Love.
Send forth Your Spirit, and we shall be created. And You
will renew the Face of the Earth.
