(Part of Natural Disaster Series) FIRE AIR EARTH WATER + DEDICATION TO AN ALMOST FORGOTTEN FIRE We all remember reading about Mrs. O'Leary's cow and the great fire of Chicago in 1871 but there was another fire about 220 miles to the north that took thousands of lives on the same day, at the same hour, on October 8 1871. Read below the events that took this fire to such tragic heights over such a large area and how praying the rosary helped open the gate to two miracles of hope for today. So many remarkable signs that lead us to understand more about the visitation of 'Our Lady of Good Help, Queen of Heaven' in Champion Wisconsin 12 years before. +
CONVERSION OF SINNERS Champion is at the base of Green Bay and Wisconsin's 'Door' Peninsula, a land traveled in the 1670s by Pere Marquette and Luis Joliet in their search for the great river (Mississippi). His dedication to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception compelled him through unknown territory, to bring the indians to Christ. + NEW STATE OF WISCONSIN 1848 Mary silently appeared to a very frightened Sister Brise on October 8, 1859 - exactly 12 years to the day before the tragic Peshtigo (WI) Fire - October 8 1871 - which also burned down the village of Champion Wisconsin, then called Robinsonville. (And of course the same day as the Great Chicago Fire). + Mary wore a white garment with a golden yellow band around her waist. She introduced herself as "Our Lady of Good Help, Queen of Heaven" She warned we must pray for the conversion of sinners. 'If they do not convert and do penance, My son will be obliged to punish them' (This would be similar to the message given at Lourdes). + THE FIRST APPROVED MARIAN APPARITION IN THE US Bishop Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay WI Issues a Formal Decree finding them 'worthy of belief'. Marian Apparitions at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help become the first and only in the U.S. to be approved by the Church! + The First Approved Marian Apparition of the U.S. was confirmed this past Dec 8, 2010 by Bishop David Ricken backed by the Vatican. Our Lady of Good Help shrine is in Champion Wisconsin in the diocese of Green Bay, right down the road from where we make rosaries. These old smoky, matte 'Givre' beads, crystal with white inclusions date back to the late 1800s - early 1900s and are chosen because of the same time period and also to symbolize the garment of Mary caught in the translucency of the heavenlies when she visited a young sister in Wisconsin - Setting this to be the first approved apparition in the U.S as of Dec 8, 2010. +
The antiqued filigree capped Pater beads remind us of the golden sash she wore as Our Lady of Good Help. The orange cast becomes a precursor of the fires to come. (Faceted Swarovski Crystal - Austria). EYE OF CAMERA: The Aves are lighter than shown here, we had to darken a bit to show quality as camera flashes back too much light off of white beads. This is an amazingly beautiful rosary, appears to be much older! The finished rosary took our breath away! |

These rare, old antique faceted beads have been dated by our vender as being from the late 19c, about the time of the apparition. They are from our private collection, just waiting for that perfect rosary and we believe this is the perfect place. Note under some light, there is a faint, green cast to the creamy white beads. Green symbolizes growth which is a beautiful reminder of how the line of fire stopped at the fence. +
Antiqued filigree caps give a richness to the golden faceted Swarovski Crystal. Again, the choice of color symbolizes Our Lady's golden sash on a white garment with a hint of the glowing fiery, orange sky that was to come 12 years later. |

These old Ave beads from Gabloz are pure white, uneven in shape and rare at best. The symbolism ties into the tabernacle untouched by the Peshtigo (WI) fire when everything around it was charred. Check the link below for the remarkable story. +
We chose the same Swarovski Crystal for all three of the rosaries to give a sense of the color of the sky as the fires drew near. A Powerful reminder of what fire can do when uncontrolled. |
