ORION (the hunter)
ANCIENT IMAGE: ORION (dayspring) - (Hebrew for 'The One Coming Forth as Light') is one of the most visible of all the constellations in the sky with his starry belt. From there, the hunter emerges. His left hand holds a club high, touching the horn of Taurus (showing unity). On his shoulder, the brightest star *BETELGUEZ* ('Coming of the Branch'). He is kneeling and on his foot, *RIGOL' (Arabic for 'Foot').  ERIDANUS (river) begins to flow from his foot. Left shoulder: *BELATRIX* (Hastily Coming). Stars on his belt in Arabic *MINTAKA (Dividing the Belt), *AL NITAK* ('The Wounded'), *AL RAI* ('The Bruising').  Sword on belt has head of a lamb and a star (nebulae) at the tip. Left leg *SAIPH* ('The Bruised').  In his left hand is the head of the 'Roaring Lion' ('Satan' - see 1 Peter 5:68 below). Over right leg with tip or sword touching it, is what appears to be a rabbit *LEPUS* (The Enemy). ORION was also known to the ancients as *UR-ANA* ('The Light of Heaven'). ORION is also known as 'The Dayspring'.

ORION'S NEBULAE

ERIDANUS (river of the judge)
ANCIENT IMAGE: ERIDANUS: A firey river flowing from under the foot of ORION, under the paws of CETUS ('Sea Monster') who appears to be trying to stop the flow. It then finds a pathway towards the Earth horizon. The brightest star, where river curves down after it passes CETUS is *ARCHENAR* (Hebrew for 'After Part of River'). Second brightest nex to ORION'S foot, *CURSA* (Hebrew for 'Bent Down.) *ZOURAK* (Arabic for 'Flowing'). ERIDANUS in Hebrew means 'River of the Judge or Ruler'

AURIGA (the shepherd)
ANCIENT IMAGE: AURIGA: A gentle shepherd holding and protecting a lamb in his left hand. In some images there are two lambs, one facing the shepherd, the other watching the mighty figures of TAURUS and ORION.  In his right hand he holds a reign, freeing the 'fish people' (people of God). the bands are symbolic of the bands in PISCES ('Fish'). URSA MINOR (lesser sheepfold)
ANCIENT IMAGE: (Also known as the 'LITTLE DIPPER'). The boxy shape is the sheepfold and the handle are sheep straying to or from the sheep pen.  The stars in this constellation are powerful. the brightest commands attention: *CYNOSURA* ('The Center' or 'The Center of the Constellations') also known as *AL-RUCCABA* or the *POLE STAR* Located under the feet of *CEPHUS* (Enthroned King) in the center of the heavens (see below). Second brightest: *KOCHAB* upper right ( Hebrew: 'Waiting Him Who Cometh'). *AL GEDI*, 'The Kid') (Constellation is also known to ancients as *CYNOSURA* after its brightest star)

THE POLAR STAR IN DRACO
Thousands of years ago, the *POLAR STAR* (*POLARIS* or *NORTH STAR*) was in the constellation DRACO (Dragon - devil). But slowly it has moved over to the constellation CEPHEUS (Enthroned King) and now rests under his foot! This star is also called *CYNOSURA* ('The Center' or 'The Center of the Constellations'). *POLARIS* or *POLAR STAR* is "nearly in a direct line with the axis of the Earth's rotation "above" the North Pole — the north celestial pole — Polaris stands almost motionless on the sky, and all the stars of the Northern sky appear to rotate around it" In the year 2100, it will be even more clearly aligned than it is now. URSA MAJOR (greater sheepfold)
ANCIENT IMAGE: A sheepfold with lambs inside and trailing out of the sheep gate towards *BOOTES'. (The handle of the dipper or long tail of the bear) The Hebrews called this constellation *ASH* ('The Assembled'). Called *AL-NAISH* (Arabia: 'The Ordered' or 'Assembled Together')  Brightest star at the gate *DUBEH* (Arab: "A Herd of Animals') . Inside the sheepfold: *MERACH* (Hebrew: 'The Flock') and in (Arabic: 'The Purchased').  *PHACED* (Arabic: 'Visited', 'Guarded', 'Numbered'). *TALETA* (Little Lamb).The line of stars moving out from the sheepfold also carry names that identify this constellation as a sheepfold. These 'sheep' are moving towards the constellation *BOOTES* (Christ holding the cycle). From *DUBEH* they move outward - * ALIOTH* (Hebrew: 'She Goat' or 'The Ewe'), *MISAR* 'Separate' or 'Small') , *AL-COR* (Arabic: 'The Lamb'),

ARGO (the ship)
ANCIENT IMAGE: ARGO (Hebrew: 'The Company of Travelers') ARGO is the grand and glorious ship that symbolizes the end of the journey, bringing the travelers, home to their destination, Zion.. The head of the ship is the head of a Lion. And the star names tells the story: *CANOPUS* ('The Possession of Him that Cometh'), *ASMIDISKA* (The Released Who Travel'). On the hull: *MARKAB* (Hebrew: 'Returning From Afar'). Two more stars, *SOHEIL* (Arabic: 'The Desired') and*SUBILON (Arabic: 'The Branch') brings us back to the first constellation in the story of the Jewish Messiah, VIRGO who holds a branch (Christ).

'DIPPERS', 'URSAS' and 'SHEEPFOLDS'
We are most familiar with the term Little Dipper / Ursa Minor and Big Dipper / Ursa Major.  It is believed the term 'Dipper' came from the time of the covered wagons traveling across America as the constellation appeared to be dippers with long handles. The ancient term Ursa (Bear or 'The Strong') represents a non-existent critter with a long tail. It is believed this term came from Mythology but the ancient star names in these constellations suggest something totally different.

ANCIENT IMAGE: HYDRA the sea dragon, (Hebrew: 'The Abhorred') is a long, twisting serpent/snake  taking up 1/3 of the heavens. with one loop in his body next to the forepaws of LEO. He slithers between the constellation LEO and ARGO (ship, see above). (Other Devil Constellations are DRACO and SERPENS). The constellation LEO is about to pounce on HYDRA as told in Genesis. HYDRA is fleeing.  CORVUS (bird / raven) is pecking on the snake and a cup CRATER is falling off of the snake. The stars in HYDRA are: *COR HYDRAE* (called by Astronomers today, 'Heart of the Serpent') - but - Arabs knew it as *AL-PHARD* ('The Separated', 'The Excluded' or 'Put Out of the Way'), The Way is the way of Christ.  *AL DRIAN* (Arabic: 'The Abhorred'), *MINCHER AL SUGIA* (Arabic: 'Tearing to Shreads of the Deceiver') Another name was HYDRUS ('The Father of Lies') and the Persians knew this constellation as 'The Serpent of Eve'. In Mythology, HYDRA was known as a female and 'The Mother of All Evil'. All point to the serpent being drawn down.

The cup has two handles, each shaped like the head of a serpent spewing out something from its mouth.  This cup is also known as the 'Cup of God's Wrath'. The cup is the mixing bowl of wine. WE choose to take of the 'Cup of Salvation' (Communion or Holy Eucharist) or the 'Cup of God's Wrath'.  Ancient Hebrews and Arabians knew this constellation as AL CHESS ('The Cup').

CORVUS (the raven)
ANCIENT IMAGE: The raven pecks at the body of the serpent HYDRA. And fulfills the prophecy of the birds of heaven would feed on the corpses of the enemies of God. The brightest star is centered in the eye of the the raven is called *AL CHIBAR* (Arabic: 'The Joining Together').
