rosary workshop - LEA series index
LEA   LIMITED EDITIONS   I
VINTAGE & ANTIQUE BEADS (1920s -30s, some 50s)  - pg 1 of 2
Sadly, these antique and vintage beads are disappearing quickly as the reserves are used up.  One of our European venders told us that many of the old pre W.W.II hand pressed beads from Germany were actually buried by the bead makers for safe keeping as the bombing approached.  Eventually the sites were lost only to be unearthed in recent times during construction of homes and industrial parks.

ANTIQUE 'CRACKLE SUGAR BEADS' (Gablonz)

Enduring Mercy III - LEA.2846
The third edition using these rare and beautiful matte grey beads, now set with Paters
of hammered silver. Each capped in antiqued bronze filigree. Very rare, unable to replace.
Beads may have been individually hand pressed because of age. (20 -40s)

~ HISTORY ~

THE BEAD INDUSTRY AND THE JEWISH PEOPLE
The Jewish people were deeply rooted in and well known in the bead industry . Their involvement  in  the trading and selling of beads goes back for centuries. One has to know that many were victims of the war  (and concentration camps) thus many of their secret hiding places of hope were lost in time and history.  Also, we are told as the older generations of bead makers, who made each bead by hand, died off and beads began to be made by machine in the 50s and 60s.  The bead makers family sold off their private bead collections to jobbers as they,  the children, ventured into a more state of the arts world of computers and other businesses. When these old treasures are gone, there will be no more.

BUT LET US NOT FORGET
Recently, on the 60th anniversary of the Holocaust, Fr Michael wrote from the UK that he had dedicated a Mass to the victims. 'The theme of the day was 'Survivors, Liberation and Rebuilding Lives.' He said in his bulletin, 'This anniversary of the liberation of the extermination and concentration camps presents one of the greatest opportunities to show our respect for the survivors of Nazi persecution and mass murder, and to listen to what they can tell us about the best and the worst of human behavior.' He also remembers them by praying one of the rosaries made of these old beads.

WHY WE NEED TO REMEMBER
“And so the survivor told himself that not to remember was equivalent to becoming the enemy's accomplice: Whosoever contributes to oblivion finishes the killers work. Hence the vital necessity to bear witness lest one find oneself in the enemy's camp” (from “A Plea for the Survivors” in Elie Wisel’s A Jew Today). Shared by Father Michael

... thank you, Father John! ...
I have never seen such beautiful rosaries as I have just now seen on your website.  Too often, the attempt to produce a set of beautiful beads  that is beyond the ordinary results in schlock.  But not yours.  Everything I saw is truly beautiful and dignified.  Keep up the good work, and may God bless you today and all your days.
In Christ - Fr John L  (USA)

... direction of the Lord's own heart ...
...  these rosaries make my heart just SING, everytime I look at one .... and I don't expect it ever to melt away.  What I wouldn't give to be able to work with you all on such inspirational design projects.  I can only imagine coffee & tea ... fingers in glorious antique beads ... palms caressing crucifixes ... and spiritual interchanges with women who think and feel with the direction of the Lord's own heart.  Such a relaxing contemplation!  Rainbows to everyone  ............
